ETHICS

I would like to address the ethics of using animal parts such as hides for anyone who would ask this question.

Perhaps you ask as a vegan, as an environmentalist or to clear up a perceived guilt you may feel when buying objects made from animal parts?

Vegan drums are made from plastic rather than hide. While plastic drums have advantages such as working in the rain, they are not an eco-friendly alternative as many people suggest. Nor can it be said that they are an ethical use of resources.

I have a few vegan Remo drums and do not suggest people don’t use them.

I’m just clearing up an occasional misconception that these drums are somehow ‘better’ than their hide counterparts.

No animal is killed specifically for our drum/sacred object making materials.

Using animals hides that would otherwise be discarded as waste products is a viable, eco-friendly and more ethical use of resources.

We often find dead animals and collect parts that way.

We work in Ceremony and in connection to the Spirit of all things.

We respect the choice of the individual to choose whether to purchase items made of animal products.

We ask that you respect our choice to create drums and sacred objects as our ancestors have done for millennia.

PACKAGING

We follow the principle of reuse, reduce, recycle.

We aim to reuse as much packaging as we can and try to avoid buying new.

When we do have to buy new packaging it is always recycled packaging.

We thought about adding thank you cards but that would require buying paper cards.

You’ll get a thank you email instead with a sacred object birthing ceremony how-to guide.

Therefore, your packaging may seem rough around the edges and not as professional as some sellers who also add nice touches… but if we really want to start properly re-using as a society, then we need to get used to things being a little different.
