Does someone else’s bad mood affect you?
Ever noticed how someone else’s bad mood can send you into a spiral even when it has nothing to do with you?
Maybe they say, “I’m just having a hard day,” but your body reacts…
Fix it. Make it better. Or you’ll be rejected.
When you grow up closely monitoring a parent’s emotions to stay safe, whether that meant avoiding their anger, soothing their sadness, or reading the room before speaking, you become hyper-attuned. This skill often helped you survive emotionally or even physically as a child.
But that same attunement warps over time.
As an adult, you might find yourself tracking everyone’s emotional state in every room you enter, friends, partners, even strangers.
- 👉🏼Even when no one asked.
- 👉🏼Even when it’s not your responsibility.
- 👉🏼Even when it becomes intrusive to others
This isn’t kindness or empathy!
It’s a survival pattern.
But here’s the truth:
You’re not that child anymore.
And your body can learn something new.
Let’s talk about how Cauldron healing helps here.
CAULDRONS HEALING ACTIVITIES FOR THIS PATTERN:
- Body Check-In Practice
Sit or lie down. Ask your body:
Where do I feel tension when someone else is upset?
Breathe into that area without trying to fix it.
Simply say to yourself: “This belongs to me. Their feelings do not.” - Boundary Rehearsal
Practice saying simple internal phrases like:- “It’s not mine to fix.”
- “I can care without carrying.”
- “I am allowed to feel safe even if the situation seems unsafe.”
Repeat these daily to re-pattern your inner response.
- Grounded Movement
Go for a short, deliberate walk with your awareness in your feet.
Say quietly to yourself with each step: “Here. Now. Me.”
This helps bring you back to your centre when someone else’s emotions feel overwhelming.
✅ You don’t need to lose yourself in someone else’s pain to be kind.
✅ You don’t need to fix their feelings to be safe.
