ShamanTalk Episode 83

Are You Facing a Dark Night of the Soul?

Have you ever felt alone in the Universe, unable to face going through the motions, having no real sense of direction, and feeling hopeless? You could be going through a ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ or a Spiritual Awakening.

The dark night of the soul can be described as an experience on a spiritual path when a person undergoes a significant and challenging inner transition to a deeper perception of themselves.

This enhanced awareness is usually accompanied by a painful shedding of previous personal beliefs around identity, relationship, habit, career or belief system that previously was the meaning and structure in their life.

Ultimately something shakes you out of your limited day-to-day perception of life.

But a Dark Night of the Soul can be a blessing in disguise…

If we embrace the process, this experience can be one of our greatest teachers. It will illuminate what is fragile, transient, and subject to change, growth, and decay and allow the truth of who we are to rise to the surface, sometimes for the first time in our lives.

Here is a list of possible pointers to a Dark Night of the Soul:

  1. You feel like you “should” be happy right now based on the evidence, but you’re really not.
  2. You start having “purge” symptoms.
  3. You feel overwhelmingly stuck or “lost.”
  4. You care about impressing people less and crave deeper connection.
  5. You begin to resonate with Spirituality, Shamanism or Eastern philosophies such as Yoga, Mediation or Reiki.
  6. You have random and intense memories pop up and perhaps dreams of past partners, forgotten childhood experiences, and so on.
  7. You’re radically rethinking your idea of “success.”
  8. You’re discovering your inner child again.
  9. You are starting to understand when others suggest that we’re all socially conditioned, living disingenuous lives, and are subtly addicted to our problems.
  10. You have frightening, irrational thoughts.
  11. Your sleeping habits are irregular. Perhaps you’re hungrier than usual or not hungry at all.
  12. The coincidences begin piling up.
  13. You feel as though you just need to be still.
  14. You discover your dormant healing capabilities.

Tune into this week’s episode to find out how you can be supported through this challenging experience.

Activities & Journeys

  1. Journey with your Guides and ask this question – ‘What within me needs to be birthed or brought into the light in order for me to have peace of mind?’

Take notes and be open to the breadcrumbs that come forward to support you on your path through your Dark Night/Spiritual Awakening.

  2. Find a gentle piece of music and open your sacred space. Go on a Journey with your Guides and ask to experience the feeling of surrender and being present. Ask that these feelings are embodied within you. When you return from this experience, perhaps your Guides will give you a gift to bring back with you.

I particularly like the following piece of music:
