Not Seeing in Journeys? You’re Not Alone. And You’re Not Doing It Wrong.
A student recently shared that she struggles to ‘see’ like others, and she found it very discouraging.
I think that is something that hits home for many.
➡️ First, I invite you to share your experience of ‘seeing’ (or not) in your journeys – so no one feels alone if they struggle with that.
Let’s untangle a few things that might help shift how you see (or don’t) in your journeys.
1. Sight is just one way to receive guidance
In the West, we’re taught to trust what we can see. It’s how we’re trained to interpret the world. So when we enter the Unseen and don’t get movie-like visuals, it feels like something’s wrong.
But the Unseen doesn’t follow our rules. Spirit speaks in many languages:
- Physical sensations
- Emotion
- Inner knowing
- Sound
- Smell
- Thought
- Metaphor
Your guides don’t need your eyes. They need your openness.
2. Your first thought is golden
Before you second-guess, before you try to make it “make sense”, try to catch that first flicker. That strange word that popped into your mind. The tingling down your arms. The song lyric you heard in your head. The pressure behind your eyes.
It is a message. Trust it.
3. Not seeing doesn’t mean nothing is happening
Some of the most powerful shamanic people I know don’t see a thing – not visually, anyway. But their connection is deep, steady, and clear because they trust their other senses, their knowing, and their relationship with spirit, which is built through time. Like all good relationships are.
4. A depleted Lower Cauldron will block connection
It might not be about seeing if you struggle to “see” in your journeys.
It might be about sensing.
And sensing begins in the body.
The Lower Cauldron is the seat of your life force.
If this cauldron is depleted—through chronic stress, trauma, disconnection, or neglect—your spiritual connection will feel patchy or absent. Not because you’re unworthy or unskilled, but because the fuel isn’t there.
This is where interoception comes in (you learn more about this in The Lower Cauldron section of The Cauldrons Way course).
Interoception is your ability to sense what’s happening inside your body. Hunger. Heat. Muscle tension. A flutter in your chest. A clenching in your gut. It’s the language your sacred body uses to speak to you.
If you struggle to connect with your body, you will struggle to feel the messages being sent to you.
So, instead of trying harder to “see,” start by rebuilding your relationship with your body:
- Notice how you breathe.
- Track your sensations during the day.
- Ask your belly what it needs.
- Spend time outside in stillness.
- Learn where your “yes” and “no” live in your body.
This is a form of journeying.
It’s a journey down and in.
And when the Lower Cauldron is full, when the body is safe, clear, and honoured, you will begin to feel the messages instead of straining to see them.
Not everyone is meant to journey with their eyes.
Some are meant to journey with their gut.
>With their blood. With their bones.
>With the deep drumbeat of their body.
Let that be enough.
>Let that be sacred.
>Let that be powerful.
5. Your journey is your own
Comparison will steal your connection faster than most other feelings.
You don’t need your journey to look like anyone else’s. Spirit is always finding the most you-shaped way to communicate.
If you’ve stopped journeying because you don’t “see,” I want to invite you back.
- Come back with less pressure.
- Come back without expectations.
- Come back willing to feel instead of see.
Sit with the drum-beat and say:
“I’m open to receiving in the way that’s meant for me.”
And then trust what comes.
Even if it’s silence, stillness, or blackness.
The clearest guidance comes when we stop trying hard to see and start learning how to receive.
