Sitting around waiting for stuff to happen – motivation

Motivation Doesn’t Exist Without Action

Waiting for motivation to strike is like standing in front of a tap, expecting it to fill your glass without lifting a finger. The truth is, motivation doesn’t just appear. It follows action.

You have to turn the tap.
And the tap is action.

When you move, you generate momentum. Momentum leads to motivation. It’s a simple equation:

Action = Motivation

If you’re waiting to feel motivated to do your spiritual work, start a new practice, or take care of something important, you’ll often find yourself stuck in a loop of procrastination.

Action is the way out.

In my experience, that’s easier said than done 😒

The 54321 Method

Resistance is normal. You might feel it as a heaviness in your chest, an urge to avoid, or even a voice saying, “Not now.” This is where a simple trick can change everything.

I first heard it from Mel Robbins, and it was a game-changer for me: the 54321 method.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Notice the task you’re avoiding or the action you need to take.
  2. Count backwards: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
  3. Physically move—stand up, pick up the thing, take the first step.

The act of counting interrupts your hesitation. By the time you reach “1,” you’ve activated your prefrontal cortex, the decision-making part of your brain. Pairing this with movement breaks the inertia of resistance.

Why It Works

The 54321 method shifts you out of autopilot and into choice. It’s small, but it works.

The key is starting, whether it’s lighting a candle for a ritual, journaling, going for a walk, or even starting a mundane task.

I used to struggle to get out of bed and it was this trick that broke that habit – and the issue just doesn’t exist in me anymore (a sentence I NEVER thought I would utter 😂)

Action Fuels Motivation

The more you move, the more motivation you’ll feel. One small step creates a ripple effect. Over time, those ripples turn into waves of progress.

If you’re stuck, remember: You don’t need motivation to begin. You need action. Turn the tap. Motivation will flow.
